Royals crush field wins Stephanie Streit Memorial, MMCRU girls finish fifth out of eight schools

HAWARDEN — The meet held Thursday at West Sioux High School was named after 1982 West Sioux graduate Stephanie Streit, who died tragically 38 years ago on November 25, 1985. Streit was 21 years old, a senior at Iowa State University, and a trainer for the Iowa State University women’s cross-country team, majoring in pre-med.

The meet was named officially named in Streit’s honor on July 12, 2019.

Eight schools on both the boys and girls side battled it out for supremacy and the right to call themselves team and event champions.

One of those teams, the MMCRU boys track team behind eight first place finishes earned the boy’s team crown with a score of 169. The Royals bettered second place finisher Hinton by 48 team points.

Six of the first place finishes came in running events. Kaden Galles won both the 1,600 Meter Run in a time of 4:52.25, and the 3,200 Meter Run in a time of 11:12.53. Wyatt Alesch won the 800 Meter Run (2:08.22), and Gage Johnson took home golf in the 400 Meter Hurdles (56.55).

There were also a pair of first place finishes in the Discus with Mitchell Schnepf tossing it a winning distance of 138-05, and Lucas Braun winning the high jump with a jump of 6-00.

The two remaining win came from the Royals’ 4×800 and Distance Medley Relay (names per not provided on who ran). The 4×800 posted a 8:51.84 clocking, while the Distance Medley Relay crossed the finish in a time of 3:47.94.

PAJAZETOVIC WINS GIRLS 3,000 METERS

Sophomore Aliza Pajazetovic was the lone winner for the MMCRU girls track team on Thursday, posting a winning time of 13:22.06 in the 3,000 Meter Run.

The MMCRU girls finished fifth with a team score of 59 points, well off the pace of team champion Hinton, who finished with a total of 138.

The Royals were to have hosted the Jack Foresman Memorial Invitational on Monday, but the probability of severe weather forced postponement.

The MMCRU teams will compete in the Class 1A State Qualifying Meet at North Union on Thursday.
