CHEROKEE — Cherokee’s girls golf team was hosting its fifth home meet of the season on Thursday as Woodbury Central came to town.

Cherokee was returning to the links for the first time since April 25th home win over the Indians of Spirit Lake. There was a meet scheduled for April 30 at Western Christian that was postponed.

The brief layoff or for whatever other reason, Cherokee found itself on the losing end of a 200-202 final. This is despite having the top two rounds of play with medalist honors belonging to senior Julia DeVos with a round of 45, followed by senior Amelia Brown’s round of 48. Brown won the tie-breaker with the Wildcats’ Natalie Stamm.

Woodbury Central occupied the next four place finishes following Brown before another Cherokee damsel in senior Allie Shea broke the string with a nine-hole 51 score. The final counting score for the Braves on the day went to senior Aurora Christensen with a round of 58.

Cherokee was to have hosted Sioux City East on Friday, but that meet has been cancelled due to the effects of Mother Nature. Today, they are scheduled to compete in the Lakes Conference Tournament at Lake Creek Country Club with the meet hosted by Storm Lake.
